What Are the Causes of Acne?

The acne skin condition can occur for many reasons, but some of the most common ones are:

  • Oil glands (sebum).
  • Blocked hair follicles or dead cells.

There are many factors that can also trigger acne, and those triggers are:

Hormonal Changes

Hormonal changes are also responsible for acne. However, there is a hormone called Androgen, and that hormone increase in boys and girls during puberty, which causes sebaceous glands to make more sebum and causes acne. Hormonal changes in midlife in women can also lead them to acne as well.

Medications

There are a number of medications that will lead you to acne. The most common example of this would be corticosteroids, lithium, and testosterone. Besides, some medications that aren’t authorized can also cause acne.

Diet

Many skin experts and researchers suggest that acne can appear or worsen by many foods. However, if you consume carbs a lot like bread, chips, and bagels, these foods may worsen your acne. At the same time, oily and fast foods can also lead to acne.

Stress

It is a trigger that won’t develop acne in you. But, if you already have acne, then stress will play a key role in worsening your condition.

What Are the Symptoms of Acne?

If you are developing acne, then you will have these symptoms:

  • Small red bumps.
  • Pus-filled, painful lumps.
  • Large painful lamps.

Treatment of Acne

Acne can become very serious and dangerous for you. It can hurt you emotionally and leave a scar on your face and body if the home remedies for acne don’t work. You must consider seeing a doctor who can provide you with medications. And, if the condition is worse and the doctor’s advice isn’t working, then you must consult with a dermatologist.

However, acne mostly appears on teenagers’ faces for hormonal changes and oil glands. But, it can also appear in adults. Mostly in women, acne can last them for decades. If acne appears in older adults, then that is an indication that they are having some kind of major health issue that requires immediate treatment.

On the other hand, some acne medications and skin care products that Food and Medication Administration has blacklisted will cause you acne or worsen your acne.

Acne Risk Factors

Some risk factors that could be the reason for acne are:

Age

Teenagers are the most common victim of acne. But, people of all ages can develop this skin condition.

Hormonal changes

Hormonal changes are mostly found at the time of puberty, and that’s why teenagers suffer the most from acne. But, during pregnancy, hormonal changes occur, and pregnant women develop acne.

Genetics

If both of your parents have acne, then it’s on your genetics, and most likely, you will develop acne soon.

If your condition is serious, then don’t just stick with home remedies. Instead, go visit a dermatologist and take medication for your condition.
